I’m Alina and I make abstract paintings built around light, atmosphere and what it feels like to actually be in a moment.

I grew up in a small town in Latvia, spending a lot of my time outside. I don’t remember things as clear events. What I do remember is the light, how it moved, how it felt, the sense of being completely there.

That way of seeing has stayed with me.

I’ve been drawn to art from a young age and later went on to study interior design. I now work in the design industry, where I spend a lot of time thinking about space, composition and how the environment affects our experience. That naturally carries through into my painting practice.

Each painting starts with a feeling rather than a fixed idea. I build it up through layers, adjusting and refining until it lands somewhere that feels right.

I’m not interested in describing something literally. I’m trying to get to that point where the work feels familiar, even if you can’t explain why.
